Get Smart Schools Board Bank

As part of its mission to increase the number of high performing schools serving low-income students, Get Smart Schools (GSS) matches people interested in serving on boards with new and emerging charter schools along the Front Range of Colorado.  Unlike a traditional district school, each public charter school is governed by a board of directors. A well-constructed board is comprised of members who (1) are committed to the mission of the school and (2) possess skills and community connections which can be utilized to advance the mission of the school. A charter school board is responsible for setting policy, financial oversight, and the hiring and firing of the school’s leader.

Why is building strong charter school boards important for education? School leaders gain from the knowledge and experience of their board members. Board members become front-line reformers improving public education. Together they create well-run schools transforming our children's futures.

We are looking for energetic and talented individuals to join this exciting effort. If you have a passion for education and have skills and talents you are ready to share, contact us today!

Once we have identified a school that will be a good match for you, we will make an introduction. From there, it is up to you and the school leadership to decide if the match is right.

Kieron McFadyen, a successfully matched board member writes--

"The GSS charter school board bank is a fantastic opportunity for committed members of the community to engage in making a difference in education for Colorado.

GSS successfully matched my capabilities with the identified needs of University Prep ensuring a successful relationship; the value of this synergy cannot be overstated. My participation in the planning for University Prep has been immensely rewarding and at times very challenging.

For every charter school, the Board’s effort is one of the critical components to successfully improving the education outcomes for Colorado youth."
