Nick Bucy

Founding School Leader, KIPP: Montbello

"We do not shrink from responsibility. We welcome it." - John F. Kennedy

Nick Bucy is currently a Fisher Fellow with KIPP Colorado Schools in Denver. At KIPP, Nick has had the opportunity to serve as Science Department Chair, Saturday School Coordinator, Mentor Teacher, Grade Level Chair, and Miles Family Fellow. Prior to joining KIPP, he was a Teach For America Corps Member in Miami, where he taught life and physical science. Nick has also worked with Teach For America as a Professional Learning Community Leader, Corps Member Advisor, and School Director. He received a B.A. in Biology from Carleton College, and holds teaching credentials in Florida and Colorado.

Nick enjoys snowboarding, soccer, and rock climbing in his free time, but is most excited about the upcoming year and the opportunity to found a new school. He is committed to working towards the day when all students in Denver have the opportunity to go to college, and can't wait to bring together a team of educators to open a high-performing charter school for the students of far northeast Denver in 2011. He is drawn to the KIPP team & family because he has seen the organization’s ability to embrace and empower students as they work to prepare for high school, college, and the competitive world beyond.
