Nina M. McDonald

The Nina M. McDonald Academy fosters a vision of schooling based on the democratic ideals of equality and individual empowerment where holistic development is actualized through authentic educational experiences that value relationships and provide developmental assets for all students. Our inclusive environment ensures that all students have the equal opportunity to learn.

We believe that customized support systems that respond to the academic and social/emotional needs of our students, prepares every learner in our school to positively contribute to society and to be successful in college and beyond. Through active community engagement, service learning and continued academic success, our learners will be change agents and leaders in the global community.

Mission

Nina M McDonald Academy will partner with students in their learning, while holding them accountable in their efforts to achieve excellence, with shared responsibility for their preparation in becoming competent, civically engaged, socially informed global citizens for the overall goal of graduating and being successful in any postsecondary option.

History

Nina M. McDonald, a community and student advocate for over 30 years in the Near Northeast Denver, served as a leader in providing support to students in her community. Organizing teachers and families to advocate for the success of students in Denver Public Schools and at the Gilliam Juvenile Detention Center, she left a legacy that continues to foster pride and dedication in the Northeast Denver communities today. Because of her undying dedication to her community and students, her stewardship continues to be an active force in the building what is now to become the Nina M. McDonald Academy.
