Richard T. Castro Elementary School
The namesake of our school is Denver native Richard T. Castro. He attended Denver area schools before entering Trinidad State Junior College. He earned his bachelor's degree from Metro State College and his master's degree from the University of Denver. Mr. Castro was an outspoken leader regarding the importance of education to meet the needs of our culturally diverse population.
Mr. Castro once said, "Education's role in our society cannot be minimized. Preparation of our children for the future enhances and strengthens our society. Quality education is a worthwhile investment in our children and communities. It is quite probably the most critical investment a people can make."
Mission
At Richard T. Castro:- We respect ourselves and our diversity by learning from each other.
- We take responsibility for our words, actions, and learning.
- We trust each other to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
- We persevere to achieve our goals and our future dreams.
History
Richard T. Castro Elementary School is located in west central Denver, CO. Our facility was built in 1993 and we opened ten additional classrooms in September 2000. Four new rooms house a center program for hearing impaired children from within the Denver Public Schools. Six classrooms meet the needs of our growing enrollment of 600 students. Our mobility rate is 93%, yet our stability rate is 80%.The school received a "commendable" rating during our last accreditation conducted in February 2000. The school recognizes the many needs of its students and provides a sound educational environment to assist every child in learning. Our school recognizes that our CSAP scores are not where we would like them to be. We are aggressively working to increase them through a stronger instruction process that provides for staff training and students accountability.
